Cranberry-orange scones

I have the house to myself today.

That never happens. The closest I get having the house one hundred percent to myself, is when I'm the last person out when we're going somewhere.

This is amazing.

My darling husband took our oldest kids ice fishing at the crack of dawn this morning. They're having a blast. Meanwhile, my wonderful MIL has taken my little guy to her house for some Nana time. He's pretty lucky.

So, invited my girlfriend over for some girl time and for a little furniture rearranging party. I needed a fresh new look, and it's always nice to have a second opinion. Also, I bribed her with scones and coffee. ;) JK....maybe.

Since my crew was getting up super early, I knew they wouldn't have time for breakfast...so I made cranberry-orange scones for the road. And truly, what's better for breakfast than eating something that can pass as dessert? Win, win.

The secret to scones, or any sort of biscuity like pastry, is to use super cold butter, and not to overwork the dough. The result is soft, billowy deliciousness.

I looove the orange flavor in these. I zest the whole orange into the dough. Can you see the poor naked orange in the first picture?

I couldn't resist this shot of my little taste tester anxiously awaiting. He likes to bring his stool over and turn the oven light so he can watch the magic.

So good and so easy!

Sidenote: I've finally figured out a way to add a subscribe button!! Well, not totally figured out, but at least I know it's possible and I have the means to make it happen. So, stay tuned!

Thanks for following along this week. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I'm off to the couch to read a book.....because that never happens in the middle of the day. Happy Friday!
